My vote is for style one, and by extension the arrows-inside-black-circles action icons which replaced the green ones. Black recedes cleanly, especially on such common icons, letting more particular, local actions stand out. To my eye, these play buttons and the arrows both look very light, kinda faded, but maybe I don't realize how dark they'll look in context.

The second style is better in my opinion because it emphasizes the function (play with the triangle, stop with the square) over the surrounding frame (circle). There is no need for a sharp frame that interferes with the "functional shape".

@ Aron Stansvik

"Monitor manufacturers charge charge premium for monitors that are not glossy. And here we are adding the glossiness back in on buttons and whatnot :)"

but that's just a very soft glossiness. nothing to do with Crystal. And I don't see the connection between the monitors that of course are more expensive if they avoid "reflections". With a monitor like that you'll fully enjoy the beauty there is in an icons with a soft glossy effect like this ;)

Pretty unrelated, but I just realized something. Monitor manufacturers charge charge premium for monitors that are not glossy. And here we are adding the glossiness back in on buttons and whatnot :)

I think Pinheiro does absolutely wonderful things but these buttons are superb David!
I love the contrast and the openness of the design. I think they're very airy and modern looking I would prefer style 1 over 2 just because 2 makes me squint my eyes like my glasses or my screen is dirty

Excellent job!

I think these are the best. The blue one is not bad, but the two other styles are better.

I tend to agree with Leo, I think the shape inside circles should be avoided.
if it's used on the player icons in order to relate with the real life hardware it's ok, but I think that for the back/forward buttons should be avoided

These are better. Good work. They are prettier, and also they are very sharp and easy to recognise.

I prefer yours, specially Style 1.

But I do agree with Louis. I think we should explore the possibility of dropping the circle it will make it easier to find the correct button, specially at small sizes.

Imho the earlier blue ones look best, then the black ones, these 2 last (sorry....)

And I'd love to see a try without the circle around them, though I'm not sure it'll look good.
